Ola postpones e-Scooter sales to September 15

Ola Electric has postponed its sale of electric scooters to September 15 by one week due to technical glitches on its website for purchases and payments.

Ola Chairman and Group CEO Bhavish Aggarwal through twitter said the purchase process has been delayed by a week and would commence from September 15. In his words, "We had committed to start purchases today (September 9) for our Ola S1 scooter. But unfortunately we have had many technical difficulties in making our website for purchases live today", he tweeted. "I want to apologise to all of you, who had to wait for several hours. The website was just not up to our expectations on quality. I know we have disappointed you and I sincerely apologise to each of you for what was clearly a very frustrating experience," wrote the CEO in his apology note.

Ok. Let's get back to the article.

Ola had eaarlier announced that the scooter would be available for purchase from September 8.  Ola Electric had opened pre-launch bookings of its electric scooters in July for Rs 499 and had received 1 lakh orders in just 24 hours.

It tried to start its planned purchase bookings on September 8 for its customers who had done the reservation at Rs. 499/- but could not begin the bookings due to technical issues. But position in purchase queue and deliveries of the electric scooter will remain unchanged says the company.

Aggarwal said they have built a completely digital purchase journey, including a fully digital loan process without any paperwork. “ We wanted to provide this first-of-its-kind digital purchase journey and today we haven’t been able to,” he said. He said the purchase would now be starting at 8 am on September 15. “Your reservation and your position in the purchase queue remains unchanged, so if you reserved first, you will still be able to buy it first. Our delivery dates also remain unchanged,” he added.

Ola had earlier said the vehicles would be delivered directly to the customers at home. “ No visiting showrooms, no running around, nothing. Purchasing early gets you priority delivery,” it had said. There will be finance options available online as well.

If you are someone who has booked the Ola electric scooter, you can visit the company’s website on 15th September for the full and final purchase. On Independence Day, the company had launched its electric scooters at a competitive starting price of Rs 99,999.

The company had last month launched the Ola S1 electric scooter in 2 variants:

In terms of the top speed, while the S1 can reach 90 kmph, the S1 Pro can go upto 115 kmph.
