Taycan is a 750 horsepower sports car that takes full advantage of the performance potential offered by electric power. It has back doors too.  It is 18 inches longer than a Porsche 911 Turbo, a gas-powered car with similar performance.  Taycan weighs over 1,200 pounds more than the 911 Turbo.

Taycan's motors produce an ample 617 horsepower. The brakes are particularly impressive. All-wheel-drive helps in getting higher torque. It has two electric motors, one driving the front wheels and another the back.

As per EPA tests, the Porsche Taycan delivers 362 km of the range. Independently, the car does 450 km on a single charge which is mighty impressive.

It also has smart electronics to transmit power to front or back wheels. The Taycan also has a small button in the steering wheel to turn on automatic regenerative braking.  

The Taycan's touchscreen user interface and stereo are visually attractive. Prices for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S start at $185,000. Porsche has also recently unveiled less expensive Taycan models starting at closer to $100,000.

Here are some of the features added to Taycan in 2021

Head-Up Display

A head up display is now available in this vehicle. It can project content such as calls or voice control commands directly in front of the driver. It is  also configurable and can be set to project navigation details, the power meter and other info.

Programmable Suspension

The new function allows drivers to program their Taycan’s suspension to automatically raise in certain locations, like speed bumps or driveways. However this feature is only included on models with the adaptive air suspension.

Over-the-Air Add-Ons

Porsche is also adding some features  which allows drivers to add convenience and assistance systems after purchasing their Taycan using over-the-air software updates.

Other additions include Active Lane Keep Assist and Porsche InnoDrive which adapts the speed of the car to the conditions ahead by taking into account speed limits, turns, traffic circles and other traffic situations.

Smarter Charging

Smarter charging feature can regulate the charging capacity. At DC fast-charging stations, it sets it to around 200 kilowatts. Drivers can enable this setting on the Taycan’s central display, and Porsche says the feature can extend the battery’s service life and reduce overall power loss while charging. A charging capacity of up to 270 kW remains available at 800-volt high-power charging stations for drivers who don’t enable the system.

Infotainment Options

Multimedia system is updated to include the availability of SiriusXM 360L, the ability to select Apple podcasts as an individual media source, more flexibility in displaying media preferences, as well as the option to highlight compatible charging locations.

Other Highlights

Other new highlights include a more secure way to pay for vehicle charging at charging points, along with seven new exterior colors namely Mahogany Metallic, Frozenberry Metallic, Cherry Metallic, Coffee Beige Metallic, Chalk, Neptune Blue and Ice Grey Metallic.

Inside, four new interior options are available namely black/Limestone Beige (standard), Blackberry and Blackberry/Slate Grey leather, Graphite Blue/Slate Grey Race-Tex and Basalt Black/Meranti Brown OLEA Club Leather.
